Green Leaf Green Girideepam Project

Green Leaf is the nature club of Girideepam Institutions which is actively engaged to sensitize, create awareness, motivate and educate students about environment conservation. Under the leadership of Prof. C P Roy (English Department GIAL & Activist, Green Leaf) the students of GBS and GIAL had planted more than ten thousand saplings in Girideepam campus as a part of Girideepam Institutions nature club Green Leaf Green Girideepam Project. The Various activites of Green Leaf is Listed below:

1. GIAL is committed towards creating a culture of environment responsibility among its students. As part of this initiative, students of English department of GIAL under the guidance of Prof C P Roy sir planted saplings on 5th June 2017 - World Environment day at Kattappana.

2.Shri V N Vasavan, CPIM Kottayam District Secretary inaugurated the ceremony of naming the saplings "THIRUVANAM" which was planted at Kottayam TB by the Girideepam Institutions nature club - Green leaf as part of Green Kottayam 2010-20 initiative. Rev. Dr. Varghese Kaipanaduka OIC (Principal GIAL), Dr. Tharsis Joseph, DMD, Rashtra Deepika Ltd and Prof. C P Roy(English Department GIAL & Green Leaf coordinator) were also part of the ceremony.

3. As a part of Girideepam Institutions nature club Green Leaf Green Girideepam Project, Dedication of the Green campus by Shri Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MLA Kottayam is held on the World Soil Day - 5th December 2017 at Girideepam Institute of Advanced Learning Auditorium. Rev. Dr. Varghese Kaipanaduka OIC (Director Girideepam Institutions), Dr. Abraham Sebastian (Principal, GBS), Prof. C P Roy (English Department GIAL & Activist, Green Leaf), Shri Civic Chandran ( Social Activist), Prof. V G Thampi ( Keralavarma College, Thrissur) and Prof. Johny P J ( Vice Principal, GIAL) were also part of the programme. Green Leaf activist - Mr Aji, Mr Raju and Mr Shigin Thomas were also part of the programme.

4. As a part of Girideepam Institutions nature club Green Leaf Green Girideepam Project, the planting of saplings for the year 2018 under the leadership of Prof. C P Roy (English Department GIAL & Activist, Green Leaf) was commenced by Rev. Fr. Sathyan Thomas, Director, GIAL by planting a sapling on 27th July 2018 at Girideepam Institute of Advanced Learning Campus. Dr. Abraham Sebastian (Principal, GBS), Prof. Johny P J ( Principal, GIAL), Faculties and Students of both GIAL and GBS were also involved in planting of saplings.

5. As a part of Girideepam Institutions nature club Green Leaf Green Girideepam Project, Rev. Fr. Sathyan Thomas (Director, GIAL) planting a Elanji sapling on 23 October 2018 at Girideepam Institute of Advanced Learning Campus. Dr. Abraham Sebastian (Principal, GBS), Prof. Johny P J ( Principal, GIAL), Dr James Joseph (HOD, Commerce Department, GIAL), Prof. C P Roy (English Department GIAL & Activist, Green Leaf) and students of GIAL were also present during the occasion.


NSS (National Service Scheme)

Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of Girideepam Institute of Advanced learning students under the leadership of Mr Ramakrishnan T U (Faculty Commerce Department, GIAL) working for a campus-community linkage. Every year NSS wing of GIAL organizes various activities and some of it is listed below:

1. Community farming by NSS students at Kattappana Valiyakandam: It is a Socio - Economic reform initiated Prof. C P Roy (English Department, GIAL) whereby every year NSS students spent one whole day for farming at Kattappana Valiyakandam.

2. As a part of the independence day celebration on 15 August 2017, the students of NSS wing of Girideepam Institute of Advanced Learning organized a cleaning drive program at the District Hospital, Kottayam.Dr. Bindu Kumari R, Superintendent, District Hospital Kottayam and Mr. T U Ramakrishnan, Program Officer, GIAL gave the leadership for the program.

3. The NSS wing of GIAL under the leadership of Mr. T U Ramakrishnan, Faculty GIAL raised Flood Relief Fund and the same was handed over to Dr B H Thirumeni, Kottayam District Collector by Rev. Fr. Sathyan Thomas, Director, GIAL on 26 July 2018.

4. On the day of Gandhi Jayanti( 2 October 2018), Students of NSS unit of GIAL under the leadership of Mr Ramakrishnan T U (Faculty, Commerce department) handed over the kits for the inmates of Shanthi Bhavan (Old Age Home), Kottayam. The team also cleaned all the rooms and vicinity of Shanthi Bhavan on the same day itself.
